Mateusz Kowalski, acclaimed by Classical Guitar Magazine as a “spectacular” musician, is one of the most outstanding guitarists of the young generation. He showcases an extensive repertoire spanning from the Renaissance to contemporary times, demonstrating extraordinary knowledge, impeccable style, and rich musical culture in his performances. He has performed in major cities such as New York, Los Angeles, Paris, Budapest, and London. In 2019, he performed the famous Concierto de Aranjuez with the Warsaw Philharmonic Orchestra. He is the winner of prestigious competitions in Antony and the 2nd EuroStrings International Competition. In 2019, the artist released his debut album through CD Accord, featuring works by Bach, Giuliani, Tárrega, Barrios, Piazzolla, Ponce, Assad, and Schubert. At the beginning of 2021, his second album, Polish Romantic Guitar, premiered, resulting from a collaboration with The Fryderyk Chopin Institute. He began learning the guitar at the age of 7, studying for 12 years under Dariusz Schmidt at the Grażyna Bacewicz State Music Schools in Koszalin. He then graduated from the Chopin University of Music in Warsaw under Ryszard Bałauszko, receiving the Magna cum Laude medal. He has honed his skills in numerous master classes with renowned musicians such as Sergio Assad, Oscar Ghiglia, and Alvaro Pierri. In addition to his solo career, Kowalski is also involved in pedagogical activities, conducting master classes at festivals in Szeged (Hungary), Rust (Austria), and Qingdao (China). Since October 2019, he has been a lecturer at the Chopin University of Music in Warsaw. He is a recipient of the Pro Arte award from the Marshal of the West Pomeranian Voivodeship, as well as scholarships from the city of Koszalin and the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage through the “Young Poland” scholarship program. The artist performs on instruments by famous luthiers such as Karl-Heinz Roemmich and Jorge Godoy (Martinez).
