In February 1998 one of the most interesting chamber ensembles in Europe was founded. A group of graduates of the Karol Szymanowski Academy of Music in Katowice, together with Marek Moś, an outstanding violinist, conductor and chamber musician, created an orchestra which was meant to be more than a work place for them – an area of artistic exploration and creative development, joint creation of high quality art. Aukso – from Greek: growing. The name chosen by the ensemble is not accidental; being an expression of the aspirations of the musicians who comprise the orchestra, it also sets the direction of their professional path. It expresses the need for improvement and consistency, for facing challenges and being open. The ensemble’s repertoire ranges from classical to contemporary music, with particular emphasis on Polish music. Composers such as Wojciech Kilar, Zbigniew Bujarski or Aleksander Lasoń entrusted the premieres of their works to the group. AUKSO is a renowned interpreter of the works of Polish composers – they recorded numerous albums with repertoire of such composers as Henryk Mikołaj Górecki, Witold Lutosławski, Wojciech Kilar or Zbigniew Preisner. AUKSO also successfully records film music of world-famous composers. AUKSO is particularly interested in crossing the borders of genres – combining classical music with jazz, alternative music, rock and searching for a common denominator for these genres – or per contra: playing with opposites and colliding distinct musical languages. In this field, AUKSO cooperated with such personalities of the world of music as Leszek Możdżer, Tomasz Stańko, Urszula Dudziak, Michał Urbaniak, or Motion Trio.
